Markel International Appoints Simon Philpin to Head of Trade Credit

Markel International, London
Markel International has appointed Simon Philpin to head of trade credit. This latest investment decision in management will support Markel’s strategy to accelerate further growth within its trade credit class of business.
As head of trade credit, Philpin will be responsible for leading the trade credit team, which operates across Markel’s offices in London, Asia, and the United States. He will also focus on developing responsiveness and service levels for the organisation’s broker network by ensuring that the correct skillset and underwriting focus is deployed across the trade credit team, which will allow them to deliver client solutions in the most effective way across their core markets.
Philpin will be based at Markel’s London office, reporting to Carl Titterton, divisional managing director of trade credit, political risk, and surety (TCPRS).
Philpin has over 20 years of underwriting experience and has been at Markel International since 2014. During this time, he has held roles in underwriting and business development – bringing the core technical expertise, as well as a good understanding of the importance of portfolio management, distribution, and service, to his new role as head of trade credit.
Outside of his day-to-day role, Philpin is chairman of the Association of British Insurer’s Trade Credit Committee, and regularly participates in speaking engagements and market commentary to drive positive change and encourage best practice among insurance professionals operating within trade credit and the wider insurance industry.
Titterton commented: “At Markel, we are committed to investing in our product lines, skills, and underwriters. This promotion reflects that investment and Simon’s most recent success in his previous role as head of broker development.”
“Simon is a service-orientated individual and together with his extensive knowledge and expertise of the trade credit market, we are confident that he will be able to take our services for brokers and clients to the next level, while strengthening our leadership position in the excess of loss trade credit market.”
