Markel Corporation’s Co-Chief Executive Officer, Richie Whitt, to retire by March 2023
Markel International, London
On 4 May, we announced Richie Whitt’s plan to retire from his role as Co-CEO of Markel Corporation by the end of March, 2023. Richie has been with Markel for over 30 years and has served as Co-CEO since 2016.
Upon Richie’s retirement, Tom Gayner, Co-Chief Executive Officer, will become sole Chief Executive Officer and Jeremy Noble, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer, will assume responsibilities for leading Markel’s global insurance platform operations.
We’d like to reassure our partners that, throughout this transition, business will continue as usual for our global insurance operations and that we expect it to run exceptionally smoothly, given the strong continuity between Richie and Jeremy.
Their career paths have been remarkably similar – both had stints working at Markel International with Jeremy as finance director between July 2015 and July 2018 - and they have worked very closely for the past three years and will continue to do so during the year-long transition.
You can see the full press release, which talks about the changes in leadership, that come with Richie’s retirement here.
